I live here in Frome, Somerset (pronounced ‘Froom’ for some reason!), which is a small town not far from Bath. It is very artistic and has several musicians living here from various genres and is apparently one of the coolest places to live in the UK at the minute. Not sure if that is down to me being here or not! I am originally from Dorset and have lived here for nearly seven years.
I got involved with the local community radio station in 2011 and at first, hosted a monthly Sports show but eventually wanted to do a music programme instead. I have always enjoyed a wide variety of music and there wasn’t a Blues show on the station, so thought I would fill that gap.
Long story short, in 2014 I was named as Independent Blues Broadcaster of the Year at the British Blues Awards, finishing ahead of a lot of established and experienced presenters across the UK. This was obviously fantastic for me and showed that people appreciated the way I do a show. Basically, I refuse to just play what is submitted, unless I like the music personally…..I think you have to show passion in whatever music you play, otherwise the listener wont be convinced either!
Into 2015 and I wanted to try something else and a Prog show idea came to reality. I wont pretend to be an expert by any means but I want to explore this genre and I’d love listeners to join me on this journey. I want to make the show ‘Prog For All’ and be accessible to fans old and, hopefully, new. I want to let the music do the talking every show and host in a laid back manner.
I hope you will take a listen when you can – thank you to everyone for the warm welcome to this great station!
