PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS is the brand new group featuring the talents of current & former Spock’s Beard members Ted Leonard, Jimmy Keegan & Dave Meros as well as long-time contributing songwriter-producer John Boegehold. The band recently signed to InsideOutMusic for the release of their self-titled debut album on July 5th, 2019.

Today they launch the first single from the album, and you can stream / download ‘No Burden Left To Carry’, as well as pre-order the self-titled album here:
https://patternseekinganimals.lnk.to/PatternSeekingAnimals

Of the musical direction, Boegehold comments: “My goal was to produce music that’s progressive and intricate while keeping things immediate and melodic.  Whether a song is four minutes or ten minutes long, I didn’t want more than a few bars go by without some kind of instrumental or vocal hook.

Originally a vehicle for a few tracks John had been working on in early 2018, he quickly came up with enough music to work towards producing an album. With that in mind, he enlisted the talents of Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Ted Leonard (vocals & guitar) & Dave Meros (bass), with Boegehold handling all the synths. He adds: “Besides live strings on a few songs and a female backing vocalist on another, it was all done between the four of us with Dave and Ted ending up as co-writers on some of the material.

With the band obviously being closely associated with Spock’s Beard, John was conscious of exploring different avenues with Pattern-Seeking Animals, whether it was song structures, vocal arrangements, synth sounds or emotional textures. “Pattern-Seeking Animals was a clean slate so I found myself drawing on a few different musical influences and using some contemporary production ideas and sounds that I probably wouldn’t use with SB for various reasons.

The album will be released on limited CD digipak, gatefold 2LP + CD & as digital album.

As John notes, as the project came together it quickly became apparent that they would want to take this material out live: “Originally it was intended to be a recording project but as it was coming together we started talking seriously about doing it as a live band. Because of the complexity of a lot of the material, it’ll require an additional musician or two to pull it off live. The plan is to tour as much as possible and to come out with a new album at least once a year. In fact, work on the second album is already well under way.

Nad Sylvan, vocalist with Steve Hackett, recently announced the release of his new solo album ‘The Regal Bastard’ on the 5th July 2019. His third album for InsideOutMusic, and his 5th overall, this record is the final part of the Vampirate trilogy that he began on 2015’s ‘Courting The Widow’.

Today he launches the first single from the album, and you can listen to ‘I Am The Sea’ here: https://youtu.be/5-p4YTwAjHU

Nad comments: “‘I Am The Sea’, the album opener (featuring Guthrie Govan on solo guitar) is a powerful song where the lyrics are a metaphor for me becoming a professional artist and giving up my day job. It’s a co-write with the very talented Anders Wollbeck, who once said  – it’s your own ‘Born To Run’!

Work on ‘The Regal Bastard’ began in August 2017, when the vocalist began to record.

What I tend to do is put down my ideas, and then send these to the proper musicians, who are then free to develop them in their own ways. I can then cherry pick from what they subsequently send me.
I have had to take a number of breaks, though, from working on this album, due to other commitments. So, it’s never been a case of me devoting all of my time to the project. But what this has done is allow me to return to it refreshed after time away, and able to take a different perspective on it all.” The record was finished over the last two-month period, with Nad working mammoth 15-20 hour days in order to complete it before his tour with Steve Hackett began. “The music to the title track was finished in early 2018, but the lyrics and the vocal delivery was all done in two days and finished on the same day I went to master the album. But it worked!

Once more, Sylvan has pulled together a tremendous array of musical talent to bring his inspiration to life.

Almost everyone who worked on ‘The Bride Said No’ is back with me again. Anders Wollbeck has again co-written two songs and plays an array of instruments as well as co producing them. Steve Hackett plays guitar on one track, Guthrie Govan on two, while Tony Levin does the bass on a song. Jonas Reingold plays bass on much of the album, and Nick D’Virgilio handles the drums. And I also have the same female singers working with me once more, these being Sheona Urquhart, Jade Ell and Tania Doko. And on ‘Honey I’m Home’, there’s a big choir section, with every singer that has been involved with the 3 albums that make up the Vampirate trilogy, concluding the story in an honourable way. We also have Nick Beggs joining in on this part of the song.

‘The Regal Bastard’ will be released as a limited CD Digipak (incl. 2 bonus tracks), Gatefold 2LP + CD & as digital album. Pre-order the album here: https://nadsylvanmusic.lnk.to/TheRegalBastard

The full-track-listing can be found below:
1. I Am The Sea
2. Oahu
3. Whoa (Always Been Without You)
4. Meet Your Maker
5. The Regal Bastard
6. Leave Me On These Waters
7. Honey I’m Home
8. Diva Time (Bonus Track)
9. The Lake Isle of Innisfree (Bonus Track)

Nad comments: “For me, this is the best of the three records. I honestly believe it will delight the fans. It is maybe not as riff heavy as the others. I would describe the sound as coming from the notion of pop going prog, with R’n’B elements in there as well. It is very soulful. But that suits my style. I am a vocal chameleon, and you’ll hear that throughout. It is the finest possible way to bring the trilogy to an end.

Nad will spend most of 2019 touring once again with Steve Hackett, as he celebrates the 40 years anniversary of “Spectral Mornings”, as well as the Genesis classic ‘Selling England By The Pound’. Find the full list of dates here: http://www.hackettsongs.com/tour.html

Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, the legendary Italian progressive rock band, today release their first new album in 25 years, titled ‘Transiberiana’ (Inside Out Music / Sony Music group). To celebrate, the band have launched a video for their most recent single L’imprevisto, and you can watch that here: https://youtu.be/M2yYTRYTyYk
Of the track, Vittorio Nocenzi commented:
At one point, the Siberian cold is so intense that the ice covers the entire track. So it becomes dangerous to move on, it could be derailed. And then the train stops, in the tundra desert. It’s cold and travelers start to be afraid. Lights can be seen outside, it could be a village. Then they start thinking about getting off the train to go and ask for help. The cold increases.
It is the metaphor of the unpredictable things that change in the course of our existence, fear before what we know is always the first weapon of defense. Instead the unexpected can also give us unexpected positive surprises, if only we were more willing to face diversity, the unusual: any unexpected can build new discoveries and new certainties if we face it with courage and determination.
The unexpected is just an opportunity to change. Don’t be afraid of the new road that opens up.
Among the sounds that characterize this track in particular the “slide guitar” of Filippo, expresses all the yearning for regret that are in the fear that travelers face in front of – nothing that has drowned our days.

Transiberiana’ is available as Limited Edition Mediabook CD with 44 page booklet, Gatefold 2LP + CD + LP Booklet, and as digital download. Order now here: https://BancodelMutuoSoccorso.lnk.to/Transiberiana

The album has been receiving fantastic reviews in the international press, and you can find a few of those below:
Each song offers a different mood and rich details, which you can discover one by one. Welcome back at the top!” – Eclipsed (Germany), 8/10
Italian prog for gourmets!” – Rocks (Germany), 8/10
An album which transcends language” – Prog (UK)

Listen to the previously released track ‘I ruderi del gulag’ here : https://youtu.be/iqul4IGkTv4

Of the album and signing, founding member Vittorio Nocenzi states: “I’m happy after working such a long time on this new Banco del Mutuo Soccorso album for Inside Out. It fills me with joy and satisfaction as I was truly inspired from the very beginning! For too many years, the band was only dedicated to live performances, so it was about time we would go back to composing, playing and producing new stuff! By choosing the ‘Transiberiana’ concept for this new piece of work, there are two main issues I’d like to point out: first the new Banco line up consisting of great musicians and great people, secondly, the presence of my two sons in the project: Michelangelo co-writing the album and Mario Valerio, who took care of a marketing and communication strategy related to it. These two elements have been the best gifts I could possibly imagine to receive! And this is an extra motivation if ever needed to do my best for reaching our goals.
I can only wish fans will enjoy this incredible project and look forward to see them live when we will go out to perform the album and classic Banco-tracks around the globe with Filippo Marcheggiani (lead guitar), Nicola Di Già (rhythm guitar), Fabio Moresco (drums), Marco Capozi (bass), our singer Tony D’Alessio and myself!

The last Banco del Mutuo Soccorso album, ‘13’, was released back in 1994 and after all those years and the loss of two historical former members, the band is back to confirm its place in the international progressive music scene.

Banco del Mutuo Soccorso (which translates to “Bank of Mutual Relief”) were formed in Rome, Italy back in 1969. In 2019, ‘Transiberiana’ will prove that this style is very much intact and creative mastermind Vittorio Nocenzi promises an “autobiographical journey” lyrically, musically and in terms of concept. ‘Transiberiana’ is not only an impressive new album by Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, but also reflects upon a storied career and redefines what the group is all about.

Banco del Mutuo Soccorso is:
Vittorio Nocenzi (piano, keyboards and voice)
Filippo Marcheggiani (guitar)
Nicola Di Già (rhythm guitar)
Marco Capozi (bass)
Fabio Moresco (drums)
Tony D’Alessio (lead vocal)

Tim Bowness’ fifth solo album ‘Flowers At The Scene’ was recently released in March. Tim and his band featuring John Jowitt (IQ, Frost etc), Michael Bearpark, Andrew Booker, Brian Hulse and Steve Bingham will be playing songs from his Inside Out/Sony label albums and no-man. You can find those dates below:

Prog Magazine have said of the album it is “literate, heart-aching art rock at its finest”, while Louder Than War comment that the record “sees him delivering a set that drips with the tasteful quality you’d expect given his fastidious care and meticulous work ethic.

Tim comments of the new album: “‘Lost In The Ghost Light felt like a conclusion to a particular way of writing and working. In the wake of that, Flowers At The Scene very much feels like a new beginning.

It was an exciting project to put together and it was great working closely with long-term creative partners, Brian Hulse and Steven Wilson plus a talented cast of new collaborators. Steven was initially brought in to mix the album, but very quickly was helping develop production ideas alongside Brian and I. Listening to pieces such as Not Married Anymore, Borderline and The War On Me, we both felt that the project had more than a hint of the spirit of no-man and it became obvious that this was a no-man co-production rather than a Bowness/Wilson one.

Elsewhere, the likes of Jim Matheos, Colin Edwin, Dylan Howe and Tom Atherton delivered some incredible performances and it was a delight to get Peter Hammill, Kevin Godley, Andy Partridge and David Longdon involved.

Peter and Kevin were two of my favourite singers growing up and I’ve been a long-term fan of XTC, so it was genuinely a thrill to hear their excellent contributions.

Representing the duo of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson’s first joint production in over a decade, the album features performances from an extraordinary cast of players including Peter Hammill (Van Der Graaf Generator), Andy Partridge (XTC), Kevin Godley (10cc), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), David Longdon (Big Big Train), co-producer Brian Hulse (Plenty), Australian trumpeter Ian Dixon, and drummers Tom Atherton and Dylan Howe. The Curator, David K Jones, violinist Fran Broady and Charles Grimsdale also guest.

Mixed by Steven Wilson and mastered by The Pineapple Thief’s Steve Kitch, the album’s artwork is by Jarrod Gosling.

The full track-listing is as follows:
1) I Go Deeper (4.15)
2) The Train That Pulled Away (4.04)
3) Rainmark (4.15)
4) Not Married Anymore (3.30)
5) Flowers At The Scene (3.04)
6) It’s The World (3.03)
7) Borderline  (3.45)
8) Ghostlike (5.08)
9) The War On Me (3.47)
10) Killing To Survive (3.59)
11) What Lies Here (4.00)

Tim Bowness is primarily known as vocalist/co-writer with no-man, a long-running collaboration with Steven Wilson.

In addition to releasing six studio albums and a documentary DVD with no-man, Tim has worked with popular Italian artist Alice, Mercury Prize nominated Banco De Gaia, Robert Fripp, Peter Hammill and Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera (amongst many others).

Tim recorded the album Flame (1994) with Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree/ex-Japan), and co-produced/co-wrote Talking With Strangers (2009) for Judy Dyble (ex-Fairport Convention).

Tim Bowness released his fourth solo album, ‘Lost In The Ghost Light’ last year through InsideOutMusic, garnering the best solo reviews he has ever received and reaching #5 in the official UK rock chart. It also picked up Best Cover Artwork at the prestigious annual Progressive Music Awards 2017.

After 25 years on the international stages, Anneke van Giersbergen is more active than she has ever been. That’s why her efforts have been recognised with the Buma ROCKS! Export Award, which she will receive on June 1st during metal festival FortaRock in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Buma Cultuur supports and promotes Dutch music copyright in both The Netherlands and key export markets for Dutch music. Each year Buma Cultuur presents a number of special awards to Dutch artists for their achievements. This year, the Buma ROCKS! Export Award for the most successful Dutch artist abroad in heavy music will be awarded to Anneke van Giersbergen.

Frank Helmink, director of Buma Cultuur: “Anneke is a household name in the rock and metal world. With The Gathering she connected metal with melodies from progressive rock. She was one of the founders of the female-fronted metal movement, which is still emulated worldwide to this day. As a solo artist and with her guest appearances she has managed to attract a loyal audience, from the heart of Brabant, the province where she was born, to well into North and South America. Add to that the fact that her voice and performance are instantly recognizable across the globe, and it’s abundantly clear that the Buma ROCKS! Export Award belongs to her.”

Anneke: “I am not particularly fond of looking back, but I do think a successful 25-year career is worth celebrating. I have always been driven by my love for singing and music, I don’t care that much about recognition. That is why I was very surprised and honored to receive this award.”

FortaRock takes place in Goffertpark, Nijmegen the Netherlands on June 1st and 2nd. Anyone with a weekend ticket or a ticket for Saturday June 1st can attend the presentation of the Buma ROCKS! Export Award to Van Giersbergen.

On November 19th, 1994 Anneke performed for the first time on stage with The Gathering. It marked the beginning of her professional career. On November 16th and 17th, 2019 Anneke will celebrate this anniversary with two exclusive shows at Effenaar, Eindhoven the Netherlands. She will perform a career-spanning setlist together with musicians from her solo band and VUUR. She will also be joined on stage by Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema), as well as Kamerata Zuid string orchestra.

The show on November 16th has already sold out, there are still some tickets available for November 17th.

In late 2018, Anneke released ‘Symphonized’, an 11-track live album record at two career-spanning concerts alongside Residentie Orkest The Hague, which saw solo tracks as well as compositions from VUUR, The Gentle Storm and The Gathering reimagined with the orchestra. SOTO, the modern Heavy Metal / Hard Rock group featuring vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (ex Yngwie Malmsteen / Talisman / ex Journey, Sons Of Apollo, TSO, etc.), are launching the second single for their upcoming album “Origami“ (Out May 24th, 2019 via InsideOutMusic) today.

Check out the album’s title track “Origami“ here:
https://youtu.be/n6ekK2HLC4Y

Jeff Scott Soto checked in with the following comment about “Origami“:

“This is one of the earlier tunes brought to us by our new bassist, Tony Dickinson, who has experience with giving us singles from the first two SOTO albums, so he is a veteran with us even before joining the band! The word origami is never used in the song but made for a great title and even better album title! It has Prog bits, very heavy moments yet very melodic, what we call melody with muscle! It also features some amazing frenetic guitar work from Jorge Salan, a proper blaster representative of the album!“

The previously released first single “BeLie“ can still be heard here:
https://youtu.be/httACwv8ioI

“Origami” will be released as a limited digipak CD with a set of 3 stickers and a bonus track, 180g vinyl LP including the entire album on CD (Available either on black vinyl or in strictly limited coloured runs!), and as digital download. The album comes packaged with classy artwork by Gustavo Sazes (Machine Head, Amaranthe, Arch Enemy).

Pre-order the album here: https://SOTO.lnk.to/Origami

The full track-listing of ’Origami‘ is as follows:

  1. HyperMania
  2. Origami
  3. BeLie
  4. World Gone Colder
  5. Detonate
  6. Torn
  7. Dance With The Devil
  8. AfterGlow
  9. Vanity Lane
  10. Give In To Me
  11. KMAG * (Bonus Track)

SOTO started in 2015 derived from the ideal of Jeff Scott Soto wanting to return to his heavier roots. So far they released 2 albums, “Inside The Vertigo“ (2015) and “DIVAK“ (2016), taking a short break while Jeff embarked on the supergroup Sons Of Apollo, alongside Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Billy Sheehan and Bumblefoot.

Now SOTO are returning under the same umbrella as Sons Of Apollo, having signed with InsideOutMusic. The new album “Origami“ contains material that continues to expand and move the band towards new heights whilst following up with their brand of Power Rock.

SOTO will hit South America for live dates in May and intend to be touring worldwide throughout 2019 following the release of the new album.

Consisting of Love Andersson (bass, vocals), AW Wiberg (drums) and Andreas Hollstrand (guitar, keys and backing vocals) they’re a band that’s been around since 2011. During the years they’ve toured and played extensively through Europe supporting In Flames, Pain of Salvation, and Karnivool to name a few.

Their last album ‘Any Way The Wind Carries’ was released in 2016, with Metal Hammer UK commenting that it combined “aching melody with shuddering depth.” Recorded with Daniel Bergstrand, at a small mountain village in southern Spain instead of their native Sweden, ‘Any Way the Wind Carries’ was another bold statement from a band that defies pigeonholing in favour of embracing a vast array of influences and distilling these into smartly arranged, concise songs.

Since their inception in 2007, Haken have shown over four previous studio albums, one EP and a live release that they never stand still, merely satisfied to rely on past triumphs. Rather, Haken always look for ways to challenge themselves as musicians and artists, and also to keep the listeners on their collective toes. “We don’t like to make simple music,” laughs vocalist Ross Jennings. “We always aim to defy expectations, and I believe we’ve surpassed what we aimed to achieve with our new album.

PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS is the brand new quartet featuring the talents of current & former Spock’s Beard members Ted Leonard, Jimmy Keegan & Dave Meros as well as long-time contributing songwriter-producer John Boegehold. The band has signed to InsideOutMusic for the release of their self-titled debut album on July 5th, 2019.

He adds: “Besides live strings on a few songs and a female backing vocalist on another, it was all done between the four of us with Dave and Ted ending up as co-writers on some of the material.”

Stay tuned for a first taste of music from Pattern-Seeking Animals in the coming weeks!
