Wokingham Festival: Day 3 – A Celebration of Prog and Classic Rock
Monday 26th August 2019, Cantley Park

For all PR enquiries, please email

For the first time in Wokingham Festival’s lengthy history, organiser Stan Hetherington has teamed up with White Star Records/Magick Eye Records founder Chris Hillman to present an all-day celebration of progressive and classic rock!

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend, the festival now extends to include even more bands performing on Monday 26th August from 12pm-7pm, with gates opening from 11am. The festival’s third day will focus on classic and prog rock genres while simultaneously keeping with the family-friendly nature of the weekend.

With all performing acts hand-picked by Hillman and Hetherington, the main stage line up of the third day’s artists has been confirmed and early bird tickets are now on sale!

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of their original formation this year, Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash will headline the festival’s additional date. They will be joined by Flutatious (Magick Eye Records), who return to Wokingham Festival having stunned attendees of last year’s festival with their unique brand of psychedelic folk rock. UK-based prog rock trio Kepler Ten will be on-hand to dish out a tsunami of modern prog rock, while fans of the classics will be treated to R2 – A tribute to perhaps one of the most influential prog rock bands of former decades – Rush.

Closing off the announcement of performing artists for the day are Berkshire 4-piece The Paradox Twin (whose debut album ‘The Importance of Mr Bedlam’ was released via White Star Records in 2018) and Reading-based rock sextet The Room – who are one of White Star Records latest signings, joining the label in late 2018 before releasing their third studio album ‘Caught By The Machine’ on 22nd February 2019.

On the selection of these bands for the new day of the festival Chris Hillman (who runs White Star Records alongside producer and musician John Mitchell) comments:

‘I’ve been to Stan’s Wokingham Festival in the past and have always been impressed with the very good organisation and atmosphere. I was therefore more than happy to accept when Stan asked me if if I’d help him create a new extra day for the festival this year featuring some of our artists. It’s wonderful to be involved with the event!’

Mirroring the White Star Records founder’s enthusiasm, Hetherington – who runs the festival as well as the renowned Wokingham Music Club (WMC) – adds :

‘It’s great to have respected and growing record labels such as White Star Records based in Wokingham. To be able to work with Chris and the team there to create a new day at the festival featuring some of their artists with other rock and prog acts that have appeared at the WMC previously is very exciting.’

With second stage bands yet to be announced for Wokingham Festival’s day three extension, ‘Early Bird’ weekend tickets for Wokingham Festival have already gone on sale, and may be purchased via the official website.

Tim Bowness – announces UK live dates in support of ‘Flowers At The Scene’

It’s The World:

Borderline :

I Go Deeper:

‘Flowers At The Scene’ is available as CD, LP + CD & as a digital album. Order now here:

Prog Magazine have said of the album it is “literate, heart-aching art rock at its finest”, while Louder Than War comment that the record “sees him delivering a set that drips with the tasteful quality you’d expect given his fastidious care and meticulous work ethic.”

Tim comments of the new album: “’Lost In The Ghost Light felt like a conclusion to a particular way of writing and working. In the wake of that, Flowers At The Scene very much feels like a new beginning.

It was an exciting project to put together and it was great working closely with long-term creative partners, Brian Hulse and Steven Wilson plus a talented cast of new collaborators. Steven was initially brought in to mix the album, but very quickly was helping develop production ideas alongside Brian and I. Listening to pieces such as Not Married Anymore, Borderline and The War On Me, we both felt that the project had more than a hint of the spirit of no-man and it became obvious that this was a no-man co-production rather than a Bowness/Wilson one.

Elsewhere, the likes of Jim Matheos, Colin Edwin, Dylan Howe and Tom Atherton delivered some incredible performances and it was a delight to get Peter Hammill, Kevin Godley, Andy Partridge and David Longdon involved.

Peter and Kevin were two of my favourite singers growing up and I’ve been a long-term fan of XTC, so it was genuinely a thrill to hear their excellent contributions.”

Representing the duo of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson’s first joint production in over a decade, the album features performances from an extraordinary cast of players including Peter Hammill (Van Der Graaf Generator), Andy Partridge (XTC), Kevin Godley (10cc), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), David Longdon (Big Big Train), co-producer Brian Hulse (Plenty), Australian trumpeter Ian Dixon, and drummers Tom Atherton and Dylan Howe. The Curator, David K Jones, violinist Fran Broady and Charles Grimsdale also guest.

Mixed by Steven Wilson and mastered by The Pineapple Thief’s Steve Kitch, the album’s artwork is by Jarrod Gosling.

The full track-listing is as follows:

1) I Go Deeper (4.15)

2) The Train That Pulled Away (4.04)

3) Rainmark (4.15)

4) Not Married Anymore (3.30)

5) Flowers At The Scene (3.04)

6) It’s The World (3.03)

7) Borderline  (3.45)

8) Ghostlike (5.08)

9) The War On Me (3.47)

10) Killing To Survive (3.59)

11) What Lies Here (4.00)

Tim Bowness is primarily known as vocalist/co-writer with no-man, a long-running collaboration with Steven Wilson.

In addition to releasing six studio albums and a documentary DVD with no-man, Tim has worked with popular Italian artist Alice, Mercury Prize nominated Banco De Gaia, Robert Fripp, Peter Hammill and Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera (amongst many others).

Tim recorded the album Flame (1994) with Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree/ex-Japan), and co-produced/co-wrote Talking With Strangers (2009) for Judy Dyble (ex-Fairport Convention).

Tim Bowness released his fourth solo album, ‘Lost In The Ghost Light’ last year through InsideOutMusic, garnering the best solo reviews he has ever received and reaching #5 in the official UK rock chart. It also picked up Best Cover Artwork at the prestigious annual Progressive Music Awards 2017.

Norwegian progressive rockers LEPROUS have started recordings for their 6th studio album, expected to be released later in 2019 via InsideOutMusic.

LEPROUS recently entered the studio to record drums and Baard Kolstad checked in with this comment:

“We entered the studio to record the drums for half of the album last week with David Castillo @ Ghostward/Fascination Street Studios, same studio as we recorded the 2 latest studio albums. As an over autistic control freak I am when recording myself, this time around I had more time than ever to perfectionise and experiment with my sound almost without compromises, so a big thanks to Einar and David for their patience!
We also recorded 1 song together, drums and bass, something neither LEPROUS or I have ever done before. Feeling very good to leave the drum recording for now, focusing on the last half of the album to be recorded in May. I’m so looking forward to hear the outcome just in a few days when the guitarists have put their touch. Will be a different LEPROUS album for sure, but still LEPROUS!”
